Hartford County staple Staropolska Restaurant, located in New Britain on Broad Street, announced on Facebook on Tuesday, June 25, that they would close permanently.

"It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that after 30 wonderful years of culinary creativity, we have decided not to re-open Staropolska Restaurant," wrote owners Margaret and Bogdan Malinowski.

The Polish eatery has been closed since a fire in the basement on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023.

The couple said they do not own the building where they have toiled over perfect perogies for years and could not come to an agreement with the property owner to restore the building.

"This decision did not come easy," they said. "After thinking long and hard and weighing out all our options - after 30 wonderful years - it is time to retire."

They said it was hard to say goodbye and thank you to all their customers, but they wanted to thank them for sticking with them, from a tiny restaurant with five tables to their bigger restaurant.

"We are forever grateful to our customers that became friends and friends that became family over the years," the couple said. "Thank you all for the beautiful memories. We will miss you so very mucThere is no"

No word yet on what will replace the restaurant.
